An Established History of Care

In 1977, Dr. Joseph M. Yasso began his career as a family practitioner. Today, he is recognized throughout Eastern Jackson County and the State for his dedication to Family Care. As a board certified family practioner, Dr. Yasso not only provides patients with more than 29 years of family medicine experience, but has been instrumental in many Missouri medical initiatives during his prestigious career.

Dr. Yasso currently serves as a member of the Missouri Drug Utilization Review Board, a post he has held since being appointed by then governor, Mel Carnahan, in 1997. In addition, Dr. Yasso serves on the board of the Missouri Center for Patient Safety.

“While I’m proud of these statewide appointments, my true passion is providing patient care for individual and families” said Dr. Yasso. “In fact, I’m still the primary healthcare provider of a family I first met my third year of medical school.”

Dr. Yasso graduated from the Kansas City University of Medicine & Biosciences in 1977, where he serves today as an Associate Professor of Family Medicine. In 2005, Dr. Yasso received the prestigious Medallion Award from the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS). He was awarded the MAOPS Distinguished Service Award in 2002. In 1999, he was named a fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians. Dr. Yasso is an active member of several professional associations, including the Association of the United States Army, the American Osteopathic Association, the Jackson County Osteopathic Medical Association, the Southwest Clinical Society and the Missouri Society of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians. The Values that Define Us

The values that shape the style of practice at Family HealthLink of Lee’s Summit include community, quality, leadership, altruism and dialogue. We strive to provide a caring relationship with our patients, based on empathy, warmth, acceptance and honesty.

Because we value long-term relationships and personalized health care, we take the time to get to know our patients, one-on-one. This allows us to explore ways to maintain health, promote wellness, manage chronic conditions, and enhance the overall quality of life for our patients and their families.

There is evidence that the quality of relationships in one’s life is important in predicting their health. We wish to be among the positive relationships in the lives of our patients, and to provide not only acute health care, but a therapeutic community supporting their lives in the larger world.

Our Services

The values, personnel and organization of Family HealthLink are all critical to our two-stage approach to health care.

Level One Services:  Acute Care and Crisis Intervention

Many people first come to us for needs that are new or impermanent, such as a skin rash, bad cold or a sprain. These incidents, though rarely impacting long-term health, provide us an important opportunity as caregivers to provide peace-of-mind and comfort to our patients. Sometimes, if the cold is related to asthma or the sprain to an arthritic condition, these acute illnesses could be the precursor of a long-term medical problem. Either way, this first line of defense is viewed as an important service at Family HealthLink. That’s why we place such an emphasis in our clinic on reducing the time between check-in and receiving the medical advice you need.

Level Two Services: Health Maintenance

We believe strongly that practicing the best medicine follows a complete health evaluation with regularly scheduled updates. At the core is your long-term well being, which we feel is much more than just writing a prescription for a symptom. Here’s what our Health Maintenance services entail:

Routine Health Maintenance allows us to access one’s overall health on a scheduled basis, related to age throughout one’s lifetime. This phase helps us prevent health problems before they occur and detect unrecognized health conditions at an early stage, when a treatment plan can still prevent future complications. A complete personal health database and the creation or revision of a care plan for existing or potential health conditions result from Route Health Maintenance visits.

Special Health Maintenance visits are focused on specific health care needs, such as:

  • Institutional Directed – School, work or sports required exams
  • Early Detection Exams – Pap smears, prostate screenings or premarital exams
  • Insurance - Required exams

Treatment Plan Management visits are regularly scheduled events for controlling and/or healing specific medical conditions. These visits monitor treatment results, adjust protocols, check for adverse effects of treatment and provide emotional support for our patients. Treatment Plan Management visits focus on conditions with on-going health care needs, such as testing, medications or specialist consultation.
